Harlan

I’m shocked that I was even able to get around the house today without hobbling – but I’m getting ahead of myself.

After seeing an event posted on Facebook, I knew I just had to go to New York City immediately and see an art show.  I’m really not a huge art junkie but I like going to museums and appreciating other people’s creativity aand hard work. What I do is barely art, in my opinion, so I have a lot of respect for people who can realy bring a canvas to life.

The art at the PPOW gallery in Chelsea was quite impressive. I have been wanting to see Boyd Holbrook’s work for a long time and it was great to finally see it in person instead of on the internet. His sculpture entitled “Harlan” was my favorite out of the three pieces in the collection. While it does resemble a massive burned piece of wood, I loved the composition and texture of the piece. I was so tempted to touch it! I didn’t, of course. As great as it would have been, that would be very disrespectful. While I am still disappointed that I missed his previous show, seeing Harlan has made me feel much better.

The rest of the day was free for exploring. Other than the trip to the art gallery, I had planned to do nothing. With Ian and Sunny, I trekked across the City from Chelsea to the heart of SoHo. I have to say, that I am still afraid to calculate the approximate number of miles I have walked. While I feel very accomplished to have gone all the way from Point A to Point B, my body did not appreciate that torment at all. By the time I got home yesterday, my legs ached from the joints of my hips all the way down to the balls of my feet. They ached so much that I had to pop down two pills in order to get myself to fall asleep. I’m quite relieved that I am not experiencing any pain today. But was it worth it? Yes. It always is. A trip to New York City is always a fun one.

I did manage to accomplish some things.

– I had lunch at the Chelsea branch of Vnyl where Top Chef winner Dave now works!
– Went to Aldo and Hugo Boss to enquire for catalogs
– Saw someone famous! Though I didn’t recognize them, two stars from the “reality show” the City were filming in SoHo.

  1. Calculate the number of miles/blocks we walked. I want to know.

I still ache (though, that might have something to do w/ the fact that I was standing for 7 hours straight today).

Vynl was awesome! I like it there. And my detour to Magnolia’s was completely worth the pain it caused.

ps. I found 2 more things for you to scan in my bag. I’ll give them to you next time I see you.
