Spoiler Warning! Don’t continue unless you’ve already seen the new Harry Potter film or you don’t plan on seeing it (I don’t know why you wouldn’t!). Cause I wrote it by hand, it may be hard to read. Thank god I have the text version below!
So I really thought that I would have written this immediately after I got home from the special 6 PM advanced screening of the Half-Blood Prince… But I didn’t. Reading via e-Reader on my Blackberry has gotten in the way recently.
Anyways, I really think that reading the book directly right before watching the movie wasn’t the smartest of ideas. I literally was able to point out all the minor discrepancies and the dialogue that was word for word. It distracted me so much that I do not think I was able to appreciate / enjoy the movie as much.
What irritated me the most (and even made me cringe) was the excessive romance in the film. The whole Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny was too sickly sweet. I did approve of Lavender Brown. She was just too funny, and I think she [Jessie Cave] played the part really well.
I still don’t get why the Burrow had to be burned down. It’s not in the book and I don’t understand why it was neccessary in the movie. Maybe it’ll get cleared up when the next film rolls around but that’s a long time to wait.
As much as I didn’t approve of some things in the film, I did enjoy it though. After all, it is Harry Potter. Sure the Sectumsempra scene wasn’t as great as I hoped it to be, it was still nice to see the book come to life! While I did get to see it a lot earlier than others, I heard such crazy midnight premiere stories that I almost wish I went to see it then instead.
I can’t wait until Deathly Hallows: Part One!!!
