Donate Your ARCs and Books!

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve recently been trying to get rid of books and ARCs to make room on my shelf. I’ve been giving them away to friends, fellow bloggers and readers, and just about anyone. I was just about to donate a box of books to my local library when my mom sent me this article that she had read.

Why not donate a box of books to the Philippines?

Hernando “Nanie” Guanlao, founder of the Reading Club, wants to share books and a love of reading to everyone. The Reading Club is literally a library out in the open in the middle of the street. The “public library” has no rules. Take a book, leave a book.

“People can borrow, they can read, they can take home. In fact, the club is open 24/7. I never close.”

Not only that, but once you take a book, you don’t have to return it; it’s yours. In fact, Guanlao encourages you to take it, take it!  This then is the ultimate democratization of reading-take home whichever book you want whenever you want and it’s yours to keep. “It’s fine with me because I know that (people) need (the books) and in my mind, whatever they take, even everything, will be returned a thousand fold,” he says. – Read the full article.

If you would love to donate, don’t worry about international shipping costs! My mom’s friend just so happens to run a non-profit organization that regularly donates books to the Reading Club. The non-profit is based in the United States. Once they have enough books for collection, they will send a huge box of books all at once to the Philippines.

I’m currently in the process of packing up a box to send over to the non-profit. If you’re also interested in sending a donation, email me at books[a]muggle-born.net and I can tell you where you can send over your books!
