LAST SACRIFICE by Richelle Mead
Series: Vampire Academy, #6
Publication Date: December 7th 2010 by Razorbill
Summary: Rose Hathaway has always played by her own rules.
She broke the law when she ran away from St. Vladimir’s Academy with her best friend and last surviving Dragomir Princess, Lissa. She broke the law when she fell in love with her gorgeous, off-limits instructor, Dimitri. And she dared to defy Queen Tatiana, leader of the Moroi world, risking her life and reputation to protect generations of dhampir guardian to come.
Now the law has finally caught up with Rose- for a crime she didn’t even commit. She’s in prison for the highest offense imaginable: the assassination of a monarch. She’ll need help from both Dimitri and Adrian to find the one living person who can stall her execution and force the Moroi elite to acknowledge a shocking new candidate for the royal throne: Vasilisa Dragomir.
But the clock on Rose’s life is running out. Rose knows in her heart the world of the dead wants her back… and this time she is truly out of second chances. The big question is, when your life is about saving others, who will save you?
- Oodles and oodles of unresolved sexual tension; I <3 Dimitri
- Non-stop jaw-dropping surprises
- Hands down, Vampire Academy is my favorite paranormal series
The conclusion to a fantastic series, LAST SACRIFICE takes you through a final epic adventure with Rose. After devouring SPIRIT BOUND, I hesitated no time at all to read the last book.
Can you say lots of unresolved sexual tension? LAST SACRIFICE was just so full of it, and I was not surprised by that fact. I do honestly love Adrian, but he cannot compare to the hunk that is Dimitri. Rose can agree with me when I say, he is just sex on a stick. Anyway, now that I am going off topic… I am really not a huge paranormal reader (yes, I am saying this for the millionth time), and what kept me going with the series is the whole relationship between Dimitri and Rose. In terms of the progression of their relationship, or salvaging it in this case, I was not disappointed at all.
The ending, to me, felt like it came out of nowhere. Like some of the characters, I did not want to believe that the murderer of Queen Tatiana had really committed the crime. However, following the mystery was fun, especially since I did not figure it out until it was revealed. Other than the murder mystery, there were a ton of other surprises along the way that kept my jaw hanging the entire time I read. The suspense was fantastic and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
I’m so glad to see that Abe still played a major role in this book. He really is one of my favorite characters and I loved seeing his participation throughout the novel. I’m not the biggest fan of Sydney, but she was crucial to the story. She shed some light on another part of the Moroi world that was previously unknown to our characters. Now knowing that there is supposed to be a spin-off based on Sydney, it made a lot of sense for her to play a bigger part in the novel.
I am so glad that I kept going with this series. Despite my initial qualms with the first two books, I ended up truly enjoying the Vampire Academy series despite the fact that – gasp! – they are vampire novels. If you still haven’t finished or started the Vampire Academy series, I strongly urge you to do so. LAST SACRIFICE was a fantastic ending to the series. It definitely tops the list of my favorite paranormal series.
YES! I totally agree, my favourite (and pretty much only) paranormal/vampire series! I thought LS was okay, but mostly because I’m team Adrian, so you’ll probably know where I’m coming from I was really surprised by the LIssa storyline in this one
Fantasitc review =D
For the first time, I quite enjoyed Lissa’s storyline. It was so refreshing after the last book. Hah poor Adrian.
