Black, Clare and DeStefano at Books of Wonder

So fellow guest blogger Loreal and I went over to Books of Wonder on Tuesday for the reading and signing with Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, and Lauren DeStefano. To be honest, we really just went to get signed Withers. I have not yet read the Mortal Instruments series past the first one and I have never read a Holly Black book.

There were a lot of people. Of course, it doesn’t compare to the time that Suzanne Collins was there for the Mockingjay release party, but I was shocked on how packed the bookstore got. I didn’t expect it to be so crowded, especially since it was a Tuesday night! I guess I underestimated the popularity of the Mortal Instruments and the Curseworkers series.

Here’s a video from the reading:

After the reading, I have to admit that I’m curious to see what the fuss is all about since everyone was just fangirling over Cassandra Clare. And Holly Black? Man, she writes good smut. I have a fine appreciation for that.

I did only walk out with a signed Wither, which I am very proud of. I resisted the temptation of buying books that were not on my wishlist.

On a side note, after the purchase of Wither, I am now on a book buying ban until further notice. :P

  1. Oh I’m so jealous – I’m a huge fan of ALL THREE of these authors! LOVED Wither, LOVE Mortal Instruments and have read quite a few of Holly Black’s series! You definitely need to read TMI :)

  2. Oh man, lucky! Sounds like a cool event, and haha I didn’t get pass City of Bones either! I enjoyed White Cat and Wither, i think it would be awesome meeting those authors =D
Can I add.. you are SO GOOD at web design? Is it HTML or just like.. graphic design genius-code? :P Anyways, new layout is PURRTTYYYYYYY!!!!

    1. Thinking about reading White Cat… maybe I’ll wait until the series is finished.

LOL thanks…. well my themes are based on PHP but basically HTML and CSS. Glad you like it.

  3. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but Wither is just the YA version of Handmaids Tale :( IMO, I want to see what you think about it regardless :)

I actually did finished TMI series because I stupidly bought all three together but NEVER AGAIN! lol :D

    1. Yeah I’ve heard that comparison before…. TBH, I couldn’t get quite through Handmaid’s Tale so maybe this one will be more of my liking. :P

Haha! So do you rec it or no? :/

      1. Not really :( I was fooled by the pretty cover, but mostly I was bored throughout the whole book. THT is hard to get through, but you can see the feminist perspective, I couldn’t see the point of Wither :( but maybe you’ll like it more than me :D

  4. Cialina! You must have been standing like right next to me because I was up against the wall to the left of you! How funny! I bought all three books and plan to read each of them in time. I loved The Handmaid’s Tale and I also made that thought about the similarities between it and Wither when I heard Lauren talk about her book. Nice coverage of the event! :)

    1. Wow, I’ve probably exchanged eye contact too wondering if it was you. :P Haha! I don’t know when I can get to Wither, but the premise sounds really interesting. I couldn’t quite get into the Handmaid’s Tale so I hope this one is easier to read for me.
